Five years ago this month a new feature to “The Everyday Homemaker,” Kelsey’s Korner, was launched. At that time the Homemaking concentration at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary transitioned to the Family and Consumer Sciences Program. Kelsey was my new administrative assistant and graduate student. As well, she was my “spiritual grandchild” having graduated from the Family and Consumer Sciences program I established at The Master’s University. We began modeling the Titus 2 principles described in my “mentoring” blog posts as she added her biblical and professional insights to each month’s topic. It is a special blessing to partner with Kelsey in the Everyday Homemaker ministry. I love the way that we sharpen and complement one another as we participate in this intergenerational ministry (Prov. 27:37).
Now, five years and 60 blog posts later, we both have moved on from Southwestern. I relocated to Georgetown, Texas in December of 2017. Jacob and Kelsey purchased a home in Benbrook, Texas and welcomed Caleb Patrick to their home November 25, 2020. Though some physical distance now separates us, we have, through electronics, maintained our partnership of encouraging our readers to become women who please God.
Our July post challenged our readers with the question, “Do you manage your time or does it manage you?” One of Kelsey’s tips suggested that “to break free from the muddy mires of time we need to take time to assess and plan.” We believe our heavenly Father would have us do that with “The Everyday Homemaker.” Thus we will be taking a brief hiatus/sabbatical from monthly writing to pray about how best to minister to you, our readers, in the months ahead. We encourage your input! If you have a topic that you would like for us to consider simply send it to us on the “Contact Pat” form located on the Blog site.
We listed some of our most popular posts at the conclusion of this post. It is our prayer that they will encourage you in your “everyday homemaking” during our hiatus. Thanks for being one of our readers and please look for our next Post in early November.
KELSEY’S KORNER
It is with many conflicting emotions that we embark on this short hiatus from our monthly posts—we care so very deeply about you, our readers, and love prayerfully creating posts for you! So what will we be doing during our time away?
We will be brainstorming ideas to make the blog more relevant, accessible, and interesting!
We will take time to focus on our other ministries—Dr. Ennis will be helping to lead a bible study at her church and continuing her involvement with P.E.O. (www.peointernational.org). I will be focusing on raising our son and co-leading a middle school Sunday school class with my husband.
We will strive to grow in our personal walks with the Lord by daily Bible readings, prayer, and accountability with one another.
Lastly, we will be praying for you (Phil. 1:9-11)! Please let us know if there are specific items we can pray for by writing to us in the “Contact Pat” tab.
During our time away, we challenge you to grow in your ministries, personal walk with God, and prayer life as well. When we return, we will all be rested and ready to take up the torch once again!
Before we “sign-out,” I would like to share of the Lord’s provision in my life. Two months ago in our post “Are You Willing to Trust in God’s Provision?” I wrote that I resigned my job in order to stay home with my son. During those early days of searching for a work-from-home job I remember describing to my husband all the qualities I was looking for in a job: completely virtual, flexible, high-paying, project-based work that allows me to work when/as I have time, even if that’s in the middle of the night. My husband’s reply was, “cool! That job sounds made up, but I hope you find it!” Well friends, I found it. By God’s immense kindness and grace, this week I will be starting a job that tics all those boxes and then some! Although we trusted God to provide for our needs, we are humbled by the Lord’s decision to provide the exact job we prayed for.
Now, as we part ways for these next few months, Paul’s prayer to the Philippians fills my mind and heart. I pray this prayer for you, as well as for myself and Dr. Ennis:
And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. ~Philippians 1:9-11
THE EVERYDAY HOMEMAKER’S MONTHLY MEDITATION THOUGHT
God’s Word states, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him as of God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and if will be given Him.” (James 1:5)
Therefore, I may boldly say, “When faced with decisions I may prayerfully ask my heavenly Father for His wisdom and He will generously provide it!”
